Markel is seeking a talented and passionate business systems analyst to join our team. We want a vocal advocate of agile / lean methods who will be excited about leading creative problem-solving as part of a cross-functional team; will obsess over writing smart, simple business requirements; will tirelessly strive for the best end-user experience and will have the drive and desire to keep learning the latest industry tools and techniques.
What you’ll do…
· Act as a lead analyst to deliver solutions aligning with the strategic goals of the organization
· Become a subject matter expert for systems supporting Specialty Insurance lines of business
· Collaborate with Product Owners, business and IT partners to define requirement specifications driving process, system and report changes (functional and non-functional)
· Lead the creation and maintenance of documentation including requirements, standards, detailed user stories and other project artifacts
· Work as part of the delivery team to support the full software development life cycle, ensuring that requirements are delivered as agreed
· Act as a player, coach, and change agent in an ever-changing environment
· Be an advocate and evangelist for business systems analysis practice

· Working understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
· Experienced in a variety of fast-moving domains working on strategic initiatives

Some things you have experience with…
· Previous experience working as a core part of passionate agile teams using agile project methodology and specific deliverables
· Lean methodology and continuous improvement processes
· Demonstrated collaboration, strong analytical and product management skills
· Use of enterprise-wide requirements definition and management systems and methodologies
· Experience of working in a matrix and distributed environment, with ability to guide and direct small teams
· Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage multiple features simultaneously while maintaining a vision of priority and order of success
Other desirable/ advantageous skills and experience…
· Experience gained in either an insurance or insurance related business
· Knowledge of risk management, governance and industry polices around data (e.g., PII, GDPR, SOX, etc.)
