Position Description
Assist in defining and managing firewall standards and polices defined by the agency
Maintain, manage, test and implement patches and upgrades
Review and validate platform upgrades and changes
Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts
Work on unusually complex technical problems and providing innovative solutions
Collaborate with application owners, stakeholders and technical teams to understand requirements and determine how to meet their needs while adhering to all applicable policies
Working with teams, vendors and consultants to determine strategy for complex system changes, upgrades and implementations
Developing configuration and procedural documentation as necessary
Work with advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts
Challenge with working on complex technical problems and providing innovative solutions
Work with highly experienced and technical resources
All other duties as assigned or directed
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
10 years of experience or more as a Network Engineer focusing on network performance management
7 years of experience with configuring and managing F5 Load Balancers
5 years of experience with configuring and managing Routing/Switching in a large enterprise network
5 years of experience with Microsoft Server and Linux Administration
3 years of experience with a high-level scripting language such as Python or Perl
Required Skills
F5 Load Balancer specific configuration and management
Experience in a large multi-datacenter network consisting of at least 5,000 devices
Solid understanding of internetworking: security, routing, switching, SAN and application networking
Experience with Microsoft Server and Linux Administration
Expertise in the Linux command-line environment
Experience with server hardware to include Dell, HP, or Cisco UCS
Experience working with standardized routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VPLS, MPLS
VMWare experience
MS Visio, Project
Ability to produce operational documentation using industry best practices in technical writing
Desired Skills
F5 Certified Administrator (201) or higher certification
Cisco Certifications such as CCNP or CCIE
Knowledge, skills and abilities creating and managing automation scripts to manage Network as a Service (Software Defined Networking (SDN), Load Balancers, firewalls, etc.
Experience developing best practice project plans, engineering scripts, and documentation for network performance management
Prior Federal government experience
Adept at working independently and in a team environment
Demonstrated experience with delivering technology solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven enterprise environment
Excellent understanding of change management, testing requirements, deployment technologies and methods, and tools to ensure high availability of systems
Self-starter, highly motivated individual who adapts to a dynamic work environment
Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities
